As the United States confirmed the continuation of its blockade of Iran, the US Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control on Tuesday imposed sanctions on 10 individuals and entities in several countries, accusing He accused them of being involved in the purchase of weapons and military components for the Iranian Ministry of Defense.
Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said, "As part of Operation Economic Castaway, Treasury will continue to target and disrupt those who provide material, technical, or financial support that enables the Iranian regime “Treasury will not tolerate any support for the regime, and will continue to identify, expose, and isolate those who enable it.”
In addition, the US Treasury confirmed that the new step aims to "undermine the ability of the Iranian regime to rebuild its weapons programs, and raise the cost on parties that help Tehran's efforts to buy equipment military service.
Sanctions were taken under Executive Order 13382, which targets proliferators of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery. In October 2007, the US State Department designated the Department of Defense Iran and the IRGC under the same order, due to their association with Iran's ballistic missile program.
As the representative of the Iranian Ministry of Defense in Beijing, Syed Asghar Alizadeh Tabatabaei is coordinating the procurement of ready-made weapon systems and dual-use components from China for Iran, the Treasury said. He was "sanctioned for his work, directly or indirectly, for or on behalf of the Iranian Ministry of Defense."
It also reported that Iran-based Kavoshkom Asia Research and Development Group purchased electronic devices and components, including connectors, for the Iranian aircraft manufacturer HSA, a subsidiary of the Defense Ministry. specialized in the development of drones and military aircraft.
The Treasury identified Ali Footu Ahmadi as the director of Kavoshcom, noting that he signed correspondence addressed to HSA on its behalf, pointing out that "EC Mojo Technology Limited, based in Hong Kong Kong, provided electronic components in support of Kavoshcom purchases, and the company's representative in China, Li, tried to circumvent sanctions and export controls, while the representative of Kavoshcom in Iran Parisa Lalli purchases for HSA, ”the US Treasury said.
The decision came at a time when the US administration is intensifying the use of economic pressure tools on Iran, in parallel with military and diplomatic pressures related to the war.
Trump has rejected an Iranian proposal to halt the attacks for seven days, as Washington seeks to use sanctions and financial measures to pressure Tehran to make concessions on the course of the war.
The US administration says that this policy aims to deprive the Iranian government of the resources it uses to finance its military and missile programs and regional networks. In contrast, she refuses Tehran considers the US sanctions and pressure policy as part of a policy targeting the Iranian economy and restricting its oil trade and revenues.
