“I supported a foreign candidate and things did not go well.” Trump’s deputy explains his lack of support for Netanyahu

“Well, I've only supported one foreign candidate in my entire life,” Vance told reporters during an anti-fraud event.

Orban reportedly lost the election earlier this year. “But basically, it happened in April - I think, we're now in the middle of an American election cycle, where my focus is very much on getting candidates into office within the United States of America,” Vance added.

He stressed that not supporting Netanyahu does not mean attacking the Israeli Prime Minister, noting that supporting US President Donald Trump is more important. He said: “I do not attack Bibi Netanyahu, nor do I support him.

“I think the president’s support is what matters in the end.” During his statements, Vance commented on the state of dissatisfaction sparked by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff’s description of Russian President Vladimir Putin as “humanitarian” in the context of the release of American Stephen Hubbard. The US Vice President downplayed the criticism, considering that Witkoff’s mission was to “accomplish what is required.”

“Whether you agree with this approach or not, Steve Witkoff is a diplomat, and his job is to go there and get the job done,” Vance said. “I don’t care so much about what Steve said as much as I care about the fact that he succeeded in returning an American hostage to his homeland and his family.”

We should all be celebrating that, rather than complaining about what Steve Witkoff said to make this happen.” Several Republicans took issue with Witkoff's statement, including Senator Thom Tillis, who called it "shameful and reprehensible."
