Iran Prepares for Potential Strikes by Raising Readiness of Vital Facilities

Iran has raised the level of readiness in dozens of vital entities and facilities, in anticipation of the possibility of attacks on its infrastructure, amid ongoing tensions and previous American threats to target facilities within the country.

The head of the Iranian Civil Defense Organization, Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali, stated that about 46 executive and operational entities are expected to have plans for wartime response and are now prepared to deal with wartime conditions.

He explained that these entities are required to develop plans for responding during the war, repairing damages, and restoring normal conditions, in addition to maintaining their functions, continuity of their activities, and securing the necessary supplies for operation.

He added that each entity must pre-determine how to address the damages that may occur to its infrastructure as a result of any attack, and how to continue providing its services if its facilities are targeted.

Jalali pointed out that the relevant infrastructure includes oil refineries, power generation stations, water treatment plants, ports, bridges, roads, airports, and airlines, which are essential facilities for the continued operation of the state and services in wartime conditions.

These measures come as the Iranian Civil Defense Organization continues to focus on enhancing the resilience of vital facilities and ensuring the continuity of services in the event of attacks.

Iranian movements gain significance in light of previous threats issued by U.S. President Donald Trump to target Iranian infrastructure.

In July, Trump threatened to target power stations and bridges if Tehran did not return to negotiations, stating that the United States was capable of striking Iranian power generation stations. His remarks came during an escalation between Washington and Tehran.

On July 22, Trump escalated his threats, stating that the United States would bomb and destroy "a bridge or power station" in Iran for every Iranian targeting of a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, clarifying that this could include facilities near Tehran or within the capital itself.

Iranian officials had vowed to respond to any targeting of the country's infrastructure.

The current state of readiness comes in this context, with the Iranian civil defense focusing on quickly repairing damages and ensuring that energy, transportation, and essential services facilities continue to operate if they are targeted.
