Iran in a Message to the United Nations: Trump's Threats to Destroy Us Violate International Law

Tehran - Afaq News - Iran has sent a message to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the Security Council, accusing US President Donald Trump of issuing a clear threat to the existence of Iran, considering that his statements regarding the destruction of Iran contradict international law and the UN Charter.

Gholam Hossein Darzi, the Iranian chargé d'affaires at the United Nations, stated in the message that Trump's remarks during his speech at the UN General Assembly, in which he threatened to destroy Iran, are not merely political rhetoric but represent threats directly related to the principles of prohibiting the threat of the use of force and protecting international peace and security, according to the Iranian news agency IRNA.

Darzi pointed out that 'Trump said during his speech that he would destroy Iran quickly,' considering that these statements come as part of a continuous pattern of public threats against Iran by the head of a permanent member state of the UN Security Council.

He added that 'the US president had previously issued threats in March and April 2026 to target and destroy Iranian energy facilities and critical infrastructure, including power plants, water desalination facilities, and bridges.'

The message considered that the American threats, in light of what Tehran described as 'acts of aggression and serious violations of international humanitarian law' that the United States and Israel are accused of committing since February 28, 2026, require action from the United Nations and its specialized agencies.

Iran stated that the explicit threat to destroy a member state of the United Nations, especially when issued from the platform of the General Assembly, severely undermines the authority of the United Nations Charter and the organization's primary responsibility to prevent threats to international peace and security.
