A Gulf meeting to discuss the establishment of strategic storage areas

The General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council held a meeting to discuss the final outcome of studying the possibility of establishing strategic storage areas in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, as these areas include food, medicines, and other basic needs.

The Assistant Secretary for Economic and Development Affairs of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Khaled Al-Sunaidi, stressed the importance of the study in enhancing the security of supplies and raising the level of preparedness of the GCC countries and their ability to deal with crises and disturbances that affect supply chains, and working to develop a more integrated Gulf system for strategic storage.

He pointed out that the study comes within an integrated vision to enhance the interconnectedness of the GCC states and their economic flexibility, in addition to a number of joint Gulf projects, including enhancing logistical integration, developing the GCC railway network, and water and electrical connectivity projects, in implementation of the directives of Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC states - may God protect and protect them - issued by the nineteenth consultative meeting of the Supreme Council, held in Jeddah on April 28, 2026 AD.

The Assistant Secretary appreciated the cooperation, data, and technical observations provided by member states, ministries, and competent authorities during the various stages of preparing the study, praising the participatory approach that was followed in its preparation by holding three successive workshops to review assumptions, data, scenarios, and recommendations before arriving at the final outcome.
