Arrests and Explosives Near a British Base Used by American Forces to Strike Iran.. What Does the Map Reveal?

- British police arrested five men on Sunday on suspicion of involvement in terrorism and explosives-related crimes near an airbase in England used by American long-range bombers in the war against Iran. Specialized army units for bomb disposal were present at the site, and dozens of nearby homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure while investigations continued.

The arrests came after receiving information from local residents shortly after midnight, according to Richard O'Connor, a senior investigator in Gloucestershire. The identities of the men have not been disclosed, and there were no indications of a possible motive behind the incident.

Aerial footage apparently showed a bomb disposal robot moving between three white vans in a wooded area near the base, with the back doors of two of those vans open, and large black objects scattered around the area. On Sunday evening, teams from Ofq News stationed near the perimeter fence of the Royal Air Force base in Fairford heard what appeared to be two controlled explosions coming from the direction of Wilthford.

Earlier, Gloucestershire police told reporters that "the army's explosive ordnance disposal unit continues to examine three vehicles near" the town. Ofq News reached out to the British Ministry of Defence for a comment.

The Daily Mail published a video allegedly showing a number of people under arrest at the incident site during the early hours of Sunday local time, where they appeared shirtless with their hands behind their backs. One local resident told Ofq News that she heard helicopters flying over Wilthford at 2 a.m., and that bomb disposal team vehicles arrived at the scene about an hour later.

The town is located near the Royal Air Force base in Fairford, which has been used by American B-1 bombers in operations targeting Iran, and is considered an advanced operational site for the U.S. Air Force's Global Strike Command, responsible for managing long-range strikes. In March, the British government granted the U.S. Air Force permission to use Fairford base to launch strikes on Iranian missile sites that were used to attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Months later, the United Kingdom announced that its armed forces were on high alert to protect the country from any attack, following a warning issued by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard regarding allowing American bombers to take off from British bases.
