Statistics: Sharp Rise in Producer Prices Last Month

Ramallah - Afaq News - The Central Bureau of Statistics stated that the general producer price index recorded a sharp increase of 13.82% during August 2026 compared to July, reaching 216.43 compared to 190.15, based on the year 2019.

The "Statistics" office clarified in a statement issued in this regard today, Monday, that the producer price index for locally consumed goods from domestic production recorded a sharp increase of 14.60%, reaching 227.04 compared to 198.11 during the previous month.

The producer price index for exported goods from domestic production also increased by 1.37%, reaching 117.42 compared to 115.83 during July.

It was noted that the prices of goods produced within the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sectors, which constitute 29.94% of the producer basket, rose by 24.08%, driven by an increase in the prices of goods within the permanent crop cultivation sector by 67.07%.

The increase included the prices of several crops, with the average price of dates at 10.16 shekels per kilogram, oranges at 4.61 shekels, clementines at 3.55 shekels, pomelos at 5.41 shekels, green olives for pickling at 10.55 shekels, and guavas at 14.08 shekels.

The prices of goods in the non-permanent crop farming sector increased by 15.50%, while the prices of goods in the livestock production sector rose by 2.49%. In contrast, the prices of goods in the fishing sector decreased by 3.58%.

In other activities, the prices of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supplies increased by 2.10%, while the prices of water supply, sewage activities, waste management, and treatment, which have a relative importance of 1.50% in the product basket, recorded a decrease of 1.57% during August 2026.

The prices of products from mining and quarrying, which have a relative importance of 1.41% in the product basket, recorded a decrease of 0.12% during August 2026 compared to the previous month.

The prices of goods produced from manufacturing activities, which have a relative importance of 58.92% in the product basket, recorded a slight decrease of 0.09%. This was due to a decrease in the average prices of goods produced in the following activities: the production of grain mill products by 17.54%, the production of prepared animal feeds by 4.18%, and the production of glass and glass products by 3.42%. Despite this, the average prices of goods produced in the following activities increased: the production of bakery products by 7.17% and the production of chemicals and chemical products by 4.07%.
