On Tuesday, the US military's Central Command responded to allegations by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard that US forces had left the Strait of Hormuz in the Gulf. This came in a blog post published by the US Central Command on its page on the
The command continued in its blog post: “The truth: American forces deployed in the Middle East are still present and monitoring the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and the surrounding waters, which was confirmed by the commander of the US Central Command over the weekend. American forces and their regional partners control this international waterway; it is clear that Iran does not control it.”
It is noteworthy that the Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, previously stated in an article published in the British newspaper “Financial Times” that at the recent United Nations General Assembly meeting, “I presented, through intermediaries, a seven-day plan to America, clarifying the necessary measures from both parties to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The important point is that America, under this proposal, is not expected to take action that it had not previously agreed to.”
The steps stipulated in the framework of the agreement are clear, and the outcome is also specific: the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened on the sixth day, and negotiations to reach the final agreement will resume as of the seventh day. If this plan is implemented, life in the region will gradually return to normal.”
He continued: “At the same time, the White House refuses to accept the increasing costs of war on ordinary American citizens. To understand the dimensions of these costs, there is no need to rely solely on my words.
Eight months after the start of another war that America voluntarily launched outside its borders, even the credit rating agency Moody’s announces that the military aggression against Iran alone has cost American consumers, this year, about $265 billion. This is a figure equivalent to about two thousand dollars per family.” He added: “The sharp rise in energy prices represents about half of this figure. This is an estimate that does not include the much heavier losses to the global economy.
If we add to this bill the costs of damage to a large number of American military bases in the region and the loss of a huge amount of military equipment, the dimensions of this disastrous war on the interests of the United States will become more and more clear.”
