The US Treasury Department announced the inclusion of 5 individuals, 4 companies, and 9 ships on the sanctions list linked to Iran, as part of measures targeting shipping networks, legal and logistical services that Washington says support Iranian commercial activities subject to sanctions.
On Wednesday, the US Treasury imposed sanctions on the law firm Karnakis and Karnakis, which is based in Panama and Greece, saying that it had provided support to the Iranian shipping sector for years.
The ministry said in a statement that the US Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) also issued an administrative subpoena as part of an investigation into a Greek bank regarding possible links to Iran, without revealing the name of the bank, according to Reuters.
The network also sent requests for information to 6 other European banks regarding their relationships with Iranian financial institutions subject to US sanctions.
The US Treasury announced new sanctions on 9 ships within the shadow fleet, linked to the transport of Iranian oil and steel.
The list of sanctioned ships includes: "Animus, Destiny, Flamingo 1, Glory, Harmony, Pride. Prince, Wheels Diamond, and Wheels Pearl."
According to US Treasury data, the targeted ships fly the flags of Panama or the UAE, and are linked to sanctioned companies within the targeted network.
