Al-Zindani: Houthi targeting of vital facilities reflects an escalatory approach that threatens the region

On Monday, the Prime Minister of Yemen, Shaye Al-Zindani, considered that the targeting of vital installations in Yemen and Saudi Arabia by the Houthi militia, the continued bombing of neighborhoods, and the siege of Taiz reflect an escalatory approach that threatens the security of the region.

Al-Zindani renewed his call on the international community to assume its responsibilities regarding the Houthi violations targeting civilians and displaced persons, and to press for an end to the siege of Taiz and open roads for the movement of citizens and humanitarian supplies.

The Yemeni Prime Minister stressed, during telephone conversations with the Head of the European Union Delegation to Yemen, Patrick Simonet, that targeting vital installations and civilians, and depriving the residents of Taiz of their basic needs, cannot be separated from the militia’s continued undermining of state institutions and imposing a reality by force.

He stressed that his government is continuing to fulfill its responsibilities and enhance the readiness of state institutions to protect citizens and vital facilities and ensure the continuation of services, in parallel with efforts to achieve the goals of Operation Yemen Dawn to restore the extension of state authority over the entire national territory and end the Houthi coup.

The talks dealt with the military escalation of the Houthi militia and the continued siege of the city of Taiz, in addition to the European bloc’s allocation of new aid to Yemen, according to the official Yemeni news agency.

Al-Zindani appreciated the European Commission’s announcement of allocating an additional US$25.17 million (22.5 million euros) for humanitarian aid in Yemen, noting the European Union’s positions in support of his government, and the importance of continuing this support and developing the partnership with the European Union in a way that enhances the ability of state institutions to face current challenges.

For his part, the European envoy renewed the Union's commitment to continue supporting the Yemeni government and supporting its efforts at this difficult stage.
