Masri Congratulates Palestinian Sports.. 3 International Achievements and Notable Success in Uzbekistan

Samarkand - Afaq News - The President of the Palestinian Chess Federation, Bashar Masri, congratulated the players of the national team on the new achievement that Palestine has accomplished at the World Chess Olympiad in the Uzbek capital, Samarkand.

Masri stated that the Palestinian participation in the Olympiad represented an important milestone in the development of Palestinian chess, praising the efforts of the players from both the Palestinian territories and the diaspora, as well as the technical and administrative staff throughout the competition days, and what they demonstrated in terms of commitment and ability to compete in one of the most prominent global events of the game.

He added that the results achieved in Samarkand serve as an incentive to continue working on developing the game and raising the technical level of the players, while enhancing Palestine's presence in upcoming regional and international events.

Palestine concluded its participation in the World Chess Olympiad after 11 days of competition, achieving three new titles from the International Chess Federation (FIDE), along with a series of notable individual and team results for the men's and women's teams.

The Palestinian men's team finished its participation with a victory over the Lesotho team with a score of 3.5 to 0.5, in the eleventh and final round, after wins by Majed Al-Tal, Ahmad Awad, and Muhammad Damaj in their matches, while Ahmad Abdul Wahab drew with his opponent.

The player Mohamed Damaj stood out during the Olympics after finishing his participation with a score of 7 points out of 9 matches, achieving a success rate of 77.8%, thus meeting the requirement to transition from the title of Candidate Master (CM) to the title of FIDE Master (FM).

In the women's competitions, the Palestinian team concluded its participation by facing the Ugandan team, which ended in a victory for the latter with a score of 3-1, while player Rahaf Faqih recorded the Palestinian win in the final match.

The Palestinian participation in the Samarkand Olympics represented an important milestone in terms of international titles, as player Yazeed Al-Hayek achieved the title of Candidate Master (CM) after gathering 4.5 points from 9 matches, adding his first international title to his record. Additionally, player Randa Sidr achieved the title of Woman Candidate Master (WCM) after scoring 5.5 points from 9 matches, adding a new achievement to the record of Palestinian women's chess and its presence in international competitions.
