Between Two Films and 20 Years of Fashion: How Anne Hathaway's Red Carpet Looks Have Evolved?

- Between the red dress worn by American actress Anne Hathaway at the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada in June 2006 in New York City, and the red dress she dazzled in at the premiere of the film's second part in April 2026, it is clear how two decades have highlighted a significant transformation in style and presence, as artistic and personal maturity reflected in her choices on the red carpet. While the first dress featured a simpler design, long with cape-like sleeves and a low neckline, the second look from the French house "Louis Vuitton" was a special design for Hathaway, bolder and more luxurious, characterized by a sleeveless cut, a heart-shaped sculpted neckline, a corset that defined the waist, and a dramatic voluminous skirt.

With her return to the red carpet for the second part of the iconic film, it was natural to notice the radical and expected change in her appearances, as Anne Hathaway was no longer in her early days, but had become a mature star who built a successful career and returned to work with more confidence, presence, and established elegance. This transformation is not limited to her appearances alone, but also extends to the evolution of fashion trends over twenty years, in addition to the significant support the work received from global brands, compared to the first part which had a more straightforward media presence.

The massive promotional campaign for the second part of the film was reflected in a series of striking appearances by the film's stars, unlike the previous period where the looks were more simple and subdued. Anne Hathaway appeared – alongside the aforementioned red dress – in a short black dress above the knee during the post-premiere party, in a simple look coordinated with a clutch bag, beige summer shoes, and delicate dangling earrings.

On the ninth day of the 63rd Venice Film Festival on September 7, 2006, the American actress appeared in a long white dress with a one-shoulder cut, with an updo hairstyle that added a more formal and elegant touch suitable for the festival's atmosphere. The scene changed completely with the official launch of the promotional tour for The Devil Wears Prada 2, with Anne Hathaway's looks making headlines.

The star began her tour in Mexico City, where she relied on a wardrobe filled with pieces from the Italian house "Schiaparelli" with a surrealistic style, alongside shiny designs from the British house "Stella McCartney", and accessories that carried inspirations drawn from the character "Andy Sachs". She then appeared in a sleeveless dress from one of the haute couture collections of the Italian house "Valentino" at the premiere in Tokyo, Japan.

The upper part of the dress featured elegant pleats with a red touch, while the skirt had three-dimensional ruffled details in black and white. At a press conference in Seoul, she chose a loose gray blouse with exposed shoulders, layered ruffled details, a corset that defined the waist, and unconventional black leather pants that appeared to be inside out from the back.

She then appeared on the red carpet in a red leather ensemble consisting of a wide cape jacket and a midi skirt with a front slit from the Fall/Winter 2026 collection of the French house "Balenciaga". In London, the star dazzled in a black "tuxedo" dress designed by the Italian house "Versace", where the traditional tuxedo details were reimagined into a luxurious evening dress with a dramatic flair.

She later chose a black and white striped dress from the French house "Louis Vuitton", distinguished by an off-shoulder cut and a dramatic skirt. Continuing her tour in the British capital, Hathaway shone in an outfit from the Italian house "Armani Privé", where she wore a velvet coat-dress from the Fall 2024 collection, adorned with pearl and crystal details.

The looks were complete in terms of makeup, hair, and jewelry, as Hathaway selected jewelry from global houses such as the Italian house "Bulgari". Thus, from city to city, Hathaway evoked light touches from the original film and the vibes of the new millennium, with a clear evolution in her style and choices.
