US President Donald Trump launched a sharp attack on the Nobel Committee, in protest against not awarding him the Peace Prize, considering that the decision left an “indelible stain” on Norway, which hosts the committee, according to what Reuters reported on Saturday.
In a lengthy post on his “Truth Social” platform, Trump said that he deserved the award because of what he described as his role in settling eight wars, adding that he deserved “eight Nobel Peace Prizes, not just one.”
The US President criticized the South African judge, Navi Pillay, who was awarded the award, saying that he knew nothing about her, and described her as a liberal person working at the United Nations. He also accused her of hating Israel, without providing evidence in his post to support this accusation.
Trump enumerated the conflicts that he said he had contributed to settling, which were between Cambodia and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, Pakistan and India, Israel and Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, in addition to the war between Israel and Hamas.
He said that the presidents and heads of governments of the concerned countries sent letters to the Norwegian Nobel Committee to support his nomination, considering that his role in the conflict between Pakistan and India alone was sufficient to win the award.
He added that he is close to settling the files of Iran and the Russian-Ukrainian war, or achieving victory in them, as he put it, stressing that developments are moving very quickly.
Trump cited Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who he said gave him her award for last year, and attributed to her a statement that he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize more than anyone who had previously won it.
The US President reviewed another set of achievements that he attributed to his administration, including preventing Iran from possessing a nuclear weapon, recovering all hostages from Israel, including the last 28 hostages, living and dead, and overthrowing Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.
He also said that it prevented the outbreak of wars on the Korean Peninsula and between China and Taiwan, and prompted NATO countries to increase spending from 2% to 5% of gross domestic product.
He added that he secured the release of more than 900 political prisoners from several countries in Eastern Europe, and returned 196 hostages from around the world, without paying ransom, according to his account.
Trump accused the United Nations of not providing assistance in the conflicts he said he had settled, and concluded his post by considering that the Nobel Committee had permanently damaged the credibility of the award, describing its members as “extremist ideologues” and anti-democracy.
