The Ministry of Justice announced last August its continued preparations to implement the new Criminal Procedure Law by equipping courtrooms, launching a remote litigation system, and training judges, lawyers, and session clerks on the new work mechanisms.

The new law, numbered 174 of 2025, set October 1, 2026, as the date for its implementation, replacing the Criminal Procedure Law issued by Law No. 150 of 1950. The law includes several updates in the criminal justice system and procedures for investigation and trial, as well as regulations related to notifications and modern litigation methods.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi called on the House of Representatives to hold an emergency session on Wednesday, one day before the scheduled opening of the new regular session of the council.
