On the way back from Jenin, after hours of standing at checkpoints and detouring through paths unknown to maps, the weary did not expect to see a scene they had not anticipated: young people from the Eastern Farm, dressed elegantly as if at a wedding rather than in a crisis, distributing water and food and telling passersby: 'Our homes are open... stay with us.'
