As the Russian-Ukrainian war continues, today, Monday, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its armed forces targeted, overnight, a cargo ship at sea that was transporting military supplies to the port of Odessa in southern Ukraine.
The statement issued by the Russian Defense Ministry said: “Last night, the Russian Armed Forces continued to carry out strikes with drones on Ukrainian port infrastructure facilities, as well as on ships belonging to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The strikes resulted in the targeting of a dry cargo ship while it was sailing, which was transporting military cargo to the port of Odessa.”
Russian forces also targeted four locomotives used for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Odessa, Krivoy Rog and Pyatkhatki regions of Dnepropetrovsk Oblast.
According to what the Russian Ministry of Defense announced, air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 151 Ukrainian drones over Russian regions and the Black Sea waters last night.
The marches were intercepted over the territories of Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kursk, Rostov, Smolensk, Tver, Tula and Yaroslavl provinces, the Moscow region and its environs, and the Republic of Crimea, as well as over the waters of the Black Sea, according to the statement.
US President Donald Trump wrote in a post on the Truth Social platform yesterday, Sunday, that Russia and Ukraine had reached an agreement, and that “as of now, there is a ceasefire in the war between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed to it. Do not break it!”
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he was surprised by the announcement, but he expressed his willingness to agree to the American proposal, provided that the truce is mutual and with “real guarantees,” that is, punitive measures against Moscow by Kiev’s allies, including Washington, according to the British newspaper The Guardian.
The Ukrainian president told Axios: “If President Trump has negotiated with Putin, tell us when the ceasefire begins. We are ready and will accept it.”
Zelensky earlier rejected Washington's call for Kiev to stop bombing Russian oil refineries, saying Moscow must end attacks on his country's energy infrastructure first.
While there were no signs of the Kremlin's commitment to the ceasefire announced by Trump, Zelensky questioned Moscow's intentions, pointing to the continuation of Russian strikes, including several air strikes targeting energy infrastructure.
