Salfit: 6 farmers were injured and vehicles were destroyed in a settler attack on olive pickers (photos and video)

Salfit - Ofoq News - Today, Thursday, six farmers were injured with bruises and wounds as a result of an attack carried out by a group of settlers on olive pickers in the Wadi Al-Shaer area, located between Salfit and the eastern town of Lubban, while the settlers smashed the windows of five vehicles belonging to the farmers.

The Director General of the Salfit Agriculture Directorate, Engineer Ibrahim Al-Hamad, said that more than 20 settlers attacked the olive pickers in the area, assaulting them using sticks and iron pipes, which led to six farmers sustaining bruises and wounds.

Al-Hamad added that five of the injuries were transferred to Salfit Governmental Hospital to receive treatment, while a number of injuries were treated in the field.

He pointed out that during the attack, the settlers smashed the windows of five vehicles parked in the area, owned by farmers who were picking olives.

Al-Hamad explained that the attack occurred in an area classified as “A,” where farmers were heading to harvest the olive crop, stressing that the repeated attacks on farmers during the olive season hinder their access to their lands and threaten their safety while carrying out their agricultural work.

This attack comes in light of the escalation of attacks on farmers and olive pickers in Salfit Governorate, coinciding with the olive picking season, which witnesses restrictions and attacks that prevent many farmers from reaching their lands and harvesting their crops.
