US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the introduction of new capabilities in the field of drones and communications to US forces operating in the Middle East, through Task Force 99, which is testing new technologies and concepts to enhance combat effectiveness on the battlefield.
The command said, in a post on the “X” website, today, Wednesday, that Task Force 99 works as a “laboratory deployed in the field” to test innovative solutions that help the forces develop their operational capabilities, as part of the US Army’s efforts to accelerate the use of modern technologies in complex military environments.
Task Force 99 is affiliated with the US Central Air Command, which is the unit responsible for developing and testing unmanned aerial vehicles and communications technologies within the scope of Central Command operations.
This force was also established in 2022 to accelerate innovation in the airspace, develop solutions that help detect and deal with threats, while testing autonomous technologies and artificial intelligence in field environments. The US Central Air Forces previously explained that the force is testing the capabilities of drones and means of communication in contested and unfamiliar environments, in addition to cooperating with military partners, research institutions and specialized companies to develop new technologies, according to the official website of the US Central Command.
On the other hand, Central Command is responsible for managing US military operations in a region that includes the Middle East and parts of Central Asia and South Asia, and operates through specialized components representing the branches of the US armed forces, including the ground, naval, air forces, Marines, special operations, and Space Force.
Its tasks also include managing military operations, coordinating with partner forces, responding to crises, and supporting maritime navigation security, in addition to developing military and technological capabilities within the scope of its responsibility.
