An eyewitness narrated the details of the shooting incident that targeted the Hammoud Church in Karak Governorate, southern Jordan, noting that two gunmen got out of a pickup truck and opened fire on those attending in front of the church, resulting in deaths and injuries.
The witness, William Halsa, said that those present were participating in prayer for a deceased woman - his cousin -, and a number of them were standing outside the church, when a pickup truck full of ammunition stopped near them, and two people got out and began shooting at those present and at the church windows, while those present tried to flee and save themselves.
He also added that the shooting continued for about four minutes, targeting the people in front of the Hamoud Church and at its gate, explaining that he saw one of them who was loading his weapon every time he emptied of bullets.
Also, another eyewitness named Khaled Burgan spoke, and said that there were two people in an unidentified car, one of them carrying a pistol and the other carrying a Kalashnikov, and he said that the shooting was random at the Halsa family in the church.
Burgan described the incident as "a massacre that has never occurred in the history of Karak Governorate," noting that they did not know the identity of the attackers.
While the second eyewitness indicated that the number of people around and inside the church ranged between 150 and 200 people, pointing out that the victims were elderly, and their ages ranged between 50 and 70 years, while a large number of people were injured, some of them in critical condition.
The official Jordanian television, quoting a security source, reported that at least seven people were killed and about ten others were injured, including those seriously injured, as a result of the shooting inside the Hamoud Church in Karak Governorate, located about 118 kilometers south of the capital, Amman.
