The European Union on Monday approved new sanctions on about 1,600 entities and individuals, all of them linked to the war launched by Russia against Ukraine, according to what the EU’s foreign policy official, Kaya Kallas, announced.
Callas said on the
“We welcome the energy truce when it holds,” Callas said during a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels. “We have not yet seen that Russia will adhere to it.”
Callas stressed that any truce must include more than the oil refineries in the two countries, noting that "Ukraine has one refinery and Russia has many refineries, and therefore this is clearly in the interest of the Russians."
Trump's announcement of an agreement between Russia and Ukraine to stop targeting energy infrastructure sparked a state of confusion, as the announcement caught Kiev by surprise while Moscow remained silent about it.
After that, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russian strikes targeted several power plants, one in Kiev and another in Kharkiv, which led to a power outage in the capital.
Ukraine's Western allies expressed their support for calls for a real ceasefire with Russia.
