On Monday, US President Donald Trump described Representative Ilhan Omar as a “terrible person,” but insisted that he was not involved in a search carried out by officers of her home in the Washington, D.C., area. Trump told reporters at the White House: “I understand that they are examining her very carefully; I have always considered her to be a completely corrupt person,” adding that the inspection process “has nothing to do with me.”
He added, "I think she's a terrible person, and just a complaining person. She comes from a country that's not a country, and then she comes here and complains about our constitution. I think she's a terrible person, but it's really up to the Department of Justice, and I have nothing to do with it."
In a statement, the department said that investigators from the Department of Homeland Security responsible for criminal investigations “executed a judicially authorized search warrant obtained by the Department of Justice.” In a post on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter), Omar described the inspection process as “the latest escalation” in Trump’s campaign of “political intimidation.”
Leave no doubt: This is an attempt to target political opponents and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns.
This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.
