Ramallah - Afaq News - Majda Al-Masri, Deputy Secretary-General of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, condemned the assaults by Israeli occupation forces early today on the monuments of martyrs, their memorials, and their images in various cities of the occupied West Bank, including the Martyrs' Monument at Birzeit University, which was targeted two days ago, following the demolition of several monuments in different cities.
Al-Masri considered that the targeting and demolition of the monuments as a form of revenge for October 7, which marks its third anniversary today, indicates their continued fear of the symbols of resistance and the resistors, represented by the martyrs' monuments, which our people cherish and hold in their national memory, commemorating their sacrifices from a position of adherence to our people's right to resist the occupation as long as it remains on our land. These monuments carry names and histories of struggle, and are connected to the sentiments of our people and the families of the martyrs.
Al-Masri added: The pursuit of the names, images, and symbols of the martyrs is a failed attempt to impose the narrative of the occupation by force, and that the world is more aware and cognizant of our just cause, our legitimate national rights, and the nature of the Israeli occupation as a racist colonial settlement that has committed genocide against our people in the Gaza Strip and targeted our existence on our land, including in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
Al-Masri stated: The occupation's bulldozers may be able to crush stone, but they will not erase the names of the martyrs from the consciousness of our people, nor will they remove from the Palestinian generations their representation of their history and their adherence to their national rights, and their insistence on continuing their struggle against the colonial replacement project, alongside all the free people of the world, including nations, parliaments, movements, unions, universities, and countries that have become more aware of the justice of our cause.
Majda Al-Masri concluded her statement by calling for an organized national movement involving forces, institutions, municipalities, universities, and civil society organizations, to assess the damages, document every incident with photos, testimonies, and dates, and to work on restoring and rebuilding the targeted monuments in coordination with the relevant authorities and the families of the martyrs.
