A special envoy for U.S. President Donald Trump said he attended an event over the weekend with the Sudanese army chief, who is fighting the Rapid Support Forces in a war that has been ongoing for more than three years and has caused one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
Moussa Boulus, senior U.S. advisor on Arab and African affairs, stated on the platform "X" that he attended a lunch hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, which was attended by Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
He added: "We reaffirm once again the ongoing efforts being made by the United States, alongside our Egyptian partners and other regional and international partners and allies, to reach a political solution to the crisis."
A senior official in the Sudanese government, which is led by the army, said that Burhan met with Boulus informally, and no discussions took place.
The Sudanese army has been engaged in battles against the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023.
The war has led to the displacement of more than 14 million people and has unleashed waves of ethnically-based killings.
Paul said yesterday, Monday: "The United States is ready to support all efforts that lead to an inclusive dialogue among Sudanese political forces, resulting in a preliminary roadmap for the future of Sudan."
