The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassim Al-Budaiwi, discussed with the Director-General of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), Pablo Hernandez, ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides in the fields of banking and related technology, in addition to a number of topics of common interest.
The meeting took place today, Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in the Thai capital, Bangkok, on the sidelines of Al Budawi’s participation in the 2026 meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group.
The two sides also discussed a number of proposals to enhance cooperation, including organizing periodic meetings to exchange experiences between the Bank for International Settlements and the Cooperation Council in a number of banking and technical fields.
The meeting comes within the framework of the Gulf Cooperation Council’s efforts to expand its partnerships with international institutions, as the Committee of Central Bank Governors in the GCC countries decided, during its last meeting, to intensify cooperation with a number of international bodies, including the Bank for International Settlements, in the field of banking supervision and control.
