Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, a Trabzonspor player, sparked the anger of Turkish Besiktas fans, after he posted a sarcastic message on social media, after scoring a goal against the team that tried to sign him during the last summer transfer period.
Salah contributed to Trabzonspor's victory over Besiktas with two unanswered goals, on Monday, in the eighth round of the Turkish League, before publishing pictures of his celebration of his goal, accompanied by the phrase "Yüzde otuz beş", which means "35%" in Turkish, along with a winking emoji.
According to the Turkish newspaper "Sozcu", the Egyptian player's post angered Besiktas fans, after it was considered a message addressed to Serdal Adali, the club's president, in reference to his previous statements regarding the failure of contract negotiations with Salah.
The Turkish newspaper "Yeni Safak" also highlighted the controversy raised by the post, noting that it was flooded with comments, after it brought to mind the dispute that accompanied the negotiations for the player's transfer to Besiktas last summer.
Adali had revealed in previous statements that Salah’s agent demanded a high commission to complete the deal, saying: “The agent raised his commission to an astronomical figure of 35%, which is a percentage that we cannot accept under any circumstances, and we do not believe that Salah was aware of these figures.”
Salah did not mention the name of the Besiktas president in his post, but his use of the same number that Adali spoke about, after scoring against his team, was widely interpreted as a sarcastic response to the statements of the Turkish club president.
Besiktas had entered into negotiations to include the Egyptian star last summer, before the deal faltered and the player moved to Trabzonspor.
Salah scored the second goal for Trabzonspor in the 72nd minute, raising his tally to eight goals in the Turkish league this season, and topping the list of top scorers in the competition.
