Sources for Ufaq News: Washington threatens to stop intelligence support and arms deals to Ukraine... for this reason

Two European officials reported to Ofoq News Network that the administration of US President Donald Trump warned Ukraine and its European allies that the United States may stop the exchange of intelligence information and European countries’ purchases of American weapons for the benefit of Ukraine, if Kiev does not stop its strikes deep inside Russia targeting energy facilities. These warnings were directed from the US Departments of State and Defense over the weekend to officials in Ukraine and Europe, and included direct communications from the US military with Ukrainian military commanders.

Another source familiar with the matter confirmed that the United States threatened to stop sharing intelligence information. The Financial Times was the first to publish a report on these threats to stop the exchange of intelligence information and arms purchases.

Ofoq News contacted the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of State and the White House to obtain a comment. These threats come at a time when Trump expressed strong dissatisfaction with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky due to the attacks on Russian oil refineries, as Ufaq News previously reported.

Trump has long blamed the Russia-Ukraine war for rising global diesel prices, and has demanded that both sides stop attacks on energy facilities. The US war with Iran also contributed to exacerbating the rise in these prices.

Earlier on Sunday, Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to what he described as an “energy truce,” a development that a source close to Zelensky said came as a surprise. Zelensky wrote on the “X” platform, previously Twitter, after the announcement: “Ukraine supports the truce, and it is important that Russia supports it as well.

We are awaiting details from the American side.” A European official told Ufoq News that the exchange of intelligence information and the purchase of weapons are “vital” for Ukraine, describing the threat as a “sad day” for Kiev and its allies.

Implementing these threats would have an immediate impact on Ukraine's defense capabilities. The intelligence information provided by the United States to Ukraine helps confront Russian attacks with ballistic missiles, by determining the locations of missile launchers and providing data on the destinations targeted by the strikes and the timing of their arrival.

Suspending arms purchases, made through the Priority Requirements List for Ukraine (PURL) mechanism, would hit shipments of Patriot interceptor missiles the hardest, of which Ukraine is already suffering a severe shortage, as Russia intensifies its missile and drone attacks across the country. Another European official told Ofoq News Network that NATO did not detect any change in the PURL program over the weekend.

The Trump administration had previously suspended intelligence sharing with Ukraine in March 2025, following a tense Oval Office meeting between Zelensky and Trump. The United States later resumed the exchange of intelligence information after Ukraine agreed to an American ceasefire proposal, following talks that took place in Saudi Arabia.

These threats will certainly further complicate the already fragile relationship between Trump and Zelensky. The two parties have entered into a debate in recent days regarding an agreement concluded by Trump with Russian President Vladimir Putin to supply the markets with Russian diesel.

Ukraine's continued attacks on Russian oil refineries was one of the factors that prompted Trump to conclude this agreement, as a US official previously told the Ofoq News network. On Saturday, Trump hinted at the need for Ukraine to choose a new leader to replace Zelensky.
