A Jordanian source confirmed to Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath channel that the terrorist organizations located near the Jordanian-Syrian border pose a direct threat to Jordanian national security, noting that they are working to recruit extremists and flood Jordan with drugs.
The source said that Jordan regrets the civilian casualties during the bombing of terrorist sites in Syria, stressing continued communication with the Syrian side regarding the terrorist hotspots located in the border region.
He also added that Jordan contributes everything that would enhance security and stability in Syria, stressing Jordan's respect for Syria's sovereignty and its commitment to supporting its security and stability.
The source noted that the operations carried out by Jordan in Syria target terrorist organizations, and do not target the Syrian state or its people, stressing Amman's keenness to support the Syrian government and its sovereignty over its lands.
The source explained that the Jordanian army's statement confirmed the existence of a link between the perpetrators of the church attack and terrorists present in Syria.
In addition, the source warned of the continued damage resulting from the activities of terrorist organizations near the northern border of Jordan, stressing that Jordan will not bear any more of this damage.
He also pointed out the existence of systematic campaigns aimed at stirring up strife between Jordan and Syria following the recent raids, at a time when Amman affirms its support for Syria's security and stability.
While he explained that the raid on the terrorist site in Daraa destroyed a weapons depot and killed terrorists, adding, "Any party planning terrorist acts in Jordan will face a firm and decisive response."
This came after hundreds of people mourned in the Daraa countryside in southern Syria, 7 civilians, including 3 children, who were killed as a result of the Jordanian raids on the southern governorate. While the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned these raids, stressing the lack of coordination with the Syrian side.
Meanwhile, an informed Jordanian source explained on Tuesday that “the civilians killed in the raid that targeted an area in Daraa, southern Syria, were from the family of one of the terrorists.” He added that the victims were the mother and nephews of one of the terrorists, noting that they were inside a tent close to his hiding place, and the tent was not targeted in the raid, according to what Al-Mamlaka TV reported.
The Jordanian raids, which targeted several locations in the countryside of Daraa and Suwayda in Syria, resulted in seven civilian casualties, including 3 children, a woman, and three men.
While the Jordanian government confirmed that 20 ISIS members were also killed in those raids, expressing its regret for the civilian deaths.
She also indicated that the raids that targeted ISIS came after Jordan ran out of patience with terrorist organizations.
It is noteworthy that these raids came days after the targeting of the Greek Orthodox Church in the village of Hamoud in the southern Jordanian governorate of Karak, which led to the death of 9 and the injury of dozens. Three gunmen opened fire randomly in front of and inside the church, where nearly two hundred people were present to participate in a funeral. They then fled, but yesterday, Monday, Jordanian forces were able to arrest them.
