Washington - Ofoq News - Federal agents from the Investigations Department of the US Department of Homeland Security raided, at dawn on Monday, the home of progressive Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar in Washington, DC, and conducted a broad search, in a development that comes as part of an ongoing criminal investigation being conducted into her.
The US Department of Justice confirmed that the raid was carried out pursuant to a judicial search warrant, while sources familiar with the details of the investigation reported that it focused on suspicions of fraud in the immigration file, and the examination of the immigration documents of Omar and her family, which were submitted when she was a child after her arrival from Somalia.
The investigation also brought to light allegations that had been circulating for years, alleging that Omar married her brother in 2009 with the aim of helping him obtain legal residency and American citizenship.
On the other hand, the Office of the Democratic Representative strongly rejected the accusations, while Omar denied these allegations over the past years, describing them as “disgusting lies,” considering that they are part of a political prosecution behind which Republican parties opposed to her stand.
