National Geographic: 25 destinations around the world worth visiting in 2027

Despite life's daily concerns and pressures, many people find comfort in planning their next trips, in search of new places and diverse experiences. In this context, National Geographic magazine revealed its list of the 25 most prominent destinations around the world worth visiting during the year 2027.

The destinations on the list range from new sites, such as Cape Forward National Park in Chile, to events celebrating prominent historical milestones, including the Beethoven Festival in the German city of Leipzig, which is held on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the death of musician Louwig van Beethoven. The list also includes cultural events, such as an arts festival in the “Snow Country” region of Japan, as well as destinations that were once remote and difficult to reach, but are now more accessible thanks to improved transportation, such as the “Maya Ca An” region in Mexico.

In particular, Nathan Lamb, editor-in-chief of National Geographic magazine, spoke with Ofoq News about some of the destinations he is very much looking forward to visiting. Pacific Coast Highway, California, America Lamb said that the Pacific Coast Highway in the US state of California is one of the most famous road trip routes in the United States, after Route 66.

With the reopening of the famous Big Sur section after three years of closure, travelers can traverse the entire route and enjoy its coastal scenery. Lamb advises stopping in towns such as Mendocino and Laguna Beach to learn about their thriving artistic scenes, which draw their inspiration from the nature of California and its coasts.

Baltimore, Maryland, America In 2027, the city of Baltimore, Maryland, USA, celebrates the 200th anniversary of the opening of the first commercial railway in the United States. To coincide with this occasion, the National Museum of Railway History and Innovation is undergoing $38 million worth of development work, including the opening of a new Innovation Hall early next year.

Although Baltimore is known for its maritime character, it hides other aspects that go beyond this traditional image. Nathan Lamb describes it as a “vibrant and prosperous” city that continues to develop, renew and witness positive transformations.

Puerto Rico Puerto Rico has a rich cultural heritage that extends beyond its shores, with its music, dances and cuisine reflecting a unique blend of African, Spanish and indigenous culture influences. The history of the indigenous people can be explored through the “Taino Trail,” which includes archaeological sites, sacred caves, and ancient rock engravings.

Grenada in 2027 Grenada celebrates the 150th anniversary of the annual Spacemas Carnival, held in August. The island is known as the "Spice Island" for its cultivation of nutmeg and cloves, as well as its green tropical landscape and colorful celebrations of music and folk shows.

Grenada also offers different relaxation experiences, from bathing in volcanic mud to practicing yoga near the Royal Mount Carmel Falls. Santander, Spain The city of Santander, located in northern Spain, is attracting global cultural interest with the opening of two prominent art museums.

The Faro Santander Museum opened last month, and includes works by prominent artists such as Titian, Velazquez and Goya, while the Reina Sofía Museum is preparing to open its branch in the city next year. Cuelap, Chachapoyas, Peru Northern Peru is filled with ruins of Cuelap Castle, built by the Chachapoya people around 500 AD.

“If you visit this place, you will definitely be the first person among your friends to do so,” Lamb said. In June, a new trail is scheduled to open allowing visitors to explore part of the previously inaccessible Malkabamba ruins and see the excavations up close.

Luxor, Egypt The city of Luxor, in southern Egypt, will witness the longest period of total solar eclipse on August 2, 2027, as the moon will block the sun’s rays from areas of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The historic Winter Palace Hotel, where the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb was announced in 1922, is scheduled to reopen in July as the Mandarin Oriental Winter Palace.

In addition to the Nile Cruises, in 2027 visitors will be able to experience the luxurious “Guardian of the Nile” train, which will connect Cairo to Aswan via Luxor. Below, here are the best tourist destinations for 2027 according to National Geographic:
