Two drones, launched from Iran, targeted the headquarters of the Iranian Kurdish opposition Komala Party in the Balisan area of Erbil Governorate in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, on Saturday, according to the Kurdish “Rudaw” media network.
The network also quoted Ali Rangbari, the party’s relations official, as saying that one of the two drones hit the party’s headquarters in Balisan, while the second targeted a guard point, resulting in material damage to a number of buildings, without recording human casualties according to preliminary information.
In another account of the attack, the "New Region" news website reported that the headquarters of the Komala Party in the Khalifan area, affiliated with the Soran Administration in Erbil Governorate, was attacked by a march, noting that the party confirmed that there were no human casualties.
Video clips were also circulated on social media, which were said to show the targeting of sites in the Alanah Valley.
In turn, Shafaq News Agency, quoting a security source, reported that two explosions were heard near the headquarters of the Iranian Kurdish opposition in the Doli Alaneh area of Khalifan district, while residents of Shaqlawa spotted drones flying in the area.
The attack comes in the context of repeated strikes targeting the headquarters of Iranian Kurdish opposition parties in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
Kurdish media reports had spoken on previous occasions of targeting sites belonging to these parties in the governorates of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, amid continuing tension against the backdrop of the presence of groups opposed to Tehran within the region.
