The British Maritime Trade Operations Authority said on Sunday that a tanker heading out of the Strait of Hormuz was hit by an unknown projectile that hit its left side.
She added that the strike damaged the tanker, but all crew members were fine.
It also reported that there were no reports of any environmental impact.
The incident comes in light of the increase in attacks and security incidents affecting oil tankers and cargo ships in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz, which represents one of the most important energy corridors in the world, through which large quantities of oil and gas exports from the Gulf region pass.
During the past few days, the British Maritime Trade Operations Authority recorded several similar incidents, including tankers being exposed to unknown projectiles, fires breaking out on board some ships, in addition to incidents of interception and threats to ships while crossing the strait.
