Hillary Clinton to Ofoq News: Haley Stevens's "sudden" withdrawal from supporting Abdul Rahman Al-Sayyed may be in his favor.

- Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told the Ufoq News network, on the eve of the midterm congressional elections, that the sudden step taken by Democratic Representative Haley Stevens - by going against her party's directions and declaring her support for the Republican candidate for Senate in the state of Michigan - will have little impact on the outcome of this heated electoral race. “Actually, if this move has any effect, I think it will be in his favor,” she added, speaking to Anderson Cooper, a broadcaster at Ufoq News, about the Democratic candidate in this race, Abdul Rahman Al-Sayyid - who beat Stevens in a tight primary contest over the summer.

The race between Abdul Rahman Al-Sayed and Republican candidate Mike Rogers witnessed a new development over the weekend, when Stevens announced, on Sunday, at the last minute, her support for Rogers. However, it is unclear how much impact this step might have. Opinion polls conducted by Ufaq News indicate that Abdul Rahman Al-Sayed is ahead of Rogers by 50% versus 45%, and a recent poll by the network showed that 95% of potential Democratic voters support the progressive candidate.

Clinton, who was the Democratic Party's 2016 presidential nominee, said she expected voters to view the move as a "personal stance" separate from "the issues that Michiganders actually want their candidates to address." She stressed that rapid action to address corruption concerns and health care affordability issues that are troubling Americans should be a top priority for Democrats if they win a majority in the House of Representatives or the Senate.

“The first bill will focus on affordability, cutting costs, and giving people access to health care again,” Clinton said. She added that the party must then give priority to combating corruption.

President Donald Trump announced that he would use his veto power in an attempt to force the Democrats to acknowledge his defeat, if the Democrats win the majority, on Tuesday. Clinton, who competed against Trump in the 2016 presidential election as the Democratic Party's nominee, said: "Let's pass some (anti-corruption) legislation, and then challenge Trump to veto it."
