Al-Sisi and the President of Indonesia issue a joint statement regarding Gaza, the Gulf, and the security of the Nile waters

On Sunday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his Indonesian counterpart, Prabowo Subianto, issued a joint statement that addressed a number of regional and international issues, most notably the situation in the Gaza Strip, the escalation in the Gulf region, and the security of the waters of the Nile River, at the conclusion of an official visit conducted by El-Sisi to Indonesia on October 10 and 11. According to a joint statement issued on the occasion of the visit, the two presidents expressed “deep concern about the continuation of violence and Israeli military operations in the occupied Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem. They condemned the illegal Israeli settlement policies and activities, and called for their immediate and complete cessation, in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.”

The two presidents renewed their “steadfast support for the establishment of an independent, sovereign, viable, and geographically contiguous Palestinian state, along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution, and in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions,” according to the statement. Al-Sisi and Prabowo also affirmed their “categorical rejection of any attempts aimed at forced displacement or expulsion of Palestinians from their homeland under any pretext, and renewed their commitment to achieving a just, comprehensive and lasting peace, including through the full implementation of US President Donald Trump’s comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza.”

"The Indonesian side expressed its appreciation for the role played by Egypt in facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, stressing its commitment to continuing to provide humanitarian support to the Palestinian people." Regarding the situation in the Gulf region, the two presidents expressed their “deep concern about the continued escalation and expansion of the scope of hostilities, and the resulting repercussions on regional security and stability, the safety of civilians, freedom of navigation, energy security, and the global economy.”

The two sides called for "an immediate reduction of escalation and the utmost restraint on the part of all parties," stressing the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, adhering to international law and the United Nations Charter, and settling disputes through dialogue and diplomacy. The two presidents also stressed the importance of enhancing strategic rapprochement and coordination between Egypt and Indonesia in regional and international forums, in light of the accelerating geopolitical and global challenges.

The joint statement touched on the challenges resulting from climate change and water scarcity, and their repercussions on water and food security, sustainable development, and regional stability. In this context, the statement indicated that the Indonesian side was informed of the vital importance of the water security of the Nile River for Egypt, while both sides stressed the importance of full compliance with the principles of international law regulating transboundary watercourses, including the principle of not causing harm.

At the level of bilateral relations, the two presidents affirmed their commitment to strengthening political, economic, defense and security cooperation between the two countries, through exchanging high-level visits on a regular basis and activating existing bilateral mechanisms, including joint committee meetings. The two sides agreed to deepen defense and security cooperation and expand its scope, in a way that enhances the national capabilities of the two countries, in addition to expanding trade and economic cooperation, facilitating access to markets, encouraging investments, enhancing the effectiveness of the joint trade committee, and moving forward with joint manufacturing projects in priority sectors.

Al-Sisi made an official visit to Indonesia on October 10 and 11, at the invitation of his Indonesian counterpart, Prabowo Subianto, following three visits the latter made to Egypt in December 2024, April 2025, and October 2025, according to the statement. At the conclusion of the visit, Al-Sisi expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian President for the warm reception and hospitality he and his accompanying delegation received, wishing the Indonesian people continued progress and prosperity.
