Washington - Ofoq News - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday evening, following a conversation with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, which discussed developments in Lebanon and the region, especially the situation in the south of the country.
According to a report published by the Israeli Walla website, citing a US State Department official, Aoun asked Rubio to put pressure on Israel to stop attacks in southern Lebanon and adhere to the terms of the framework agreement.
Aoun demands the protection of farmers and a halt to the evictions of the areas
During the call, the Lebanese President called for stopping the evacuations of the areas, and allowing farmers to access their lands and work on them without being subjected to attacks or harassment.
Aoun stressed that the Lebanese army and security services continue to implement measures aimed at preventing armed presence, confiscating weapons and ammunition, and combating smuggling operations, noting that the steps taken during recent days come within the framework of these efforts.
The Lebanese President indicated that the judicial authorities are following up on the files that were referred to them, stressing that there will be no tolerance for those responsible for violations, and that the law will be implemented without discrimination or favoritism to any party.
The American-Israeli contact came after Aoun requested Washington’s intervention to stop Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, at a time when the region is witnessing continuing security developments.
