In an incident that sparked controversy, Egyptian artist Abed Anani revealed that he was subjected to death threats and being buried alive inside one of the residential complexes in 6th of October City, against the backdrop of a dispute over a water outage in his apartment, confirming that he sought help from the police and filed a report on the incident.
According to the artist’s account, the crisis began with repeated water outages in his residential unit for long periods, without knowing a clear reason, before he discovered, according to him, that one of the maintenance workers in the residential complex was tampering with the water valve in his apartment, and causing it to be repeatedly interrupted.
Anani explained that matters escalated when he sought help from the security personnel of the residential complex to prove the incident, only to be surprised by the presence of the complex manager at the site, and instead of containing the crisis, he directed threats at him in front of those present, saying, according to his narration: “Stay silent instead of burying you in your place.”
In exclusive statements to Al Arabiya.net, Abed Anani said that he owns an apartment within one of the residential complexes in 6th of October City, but he does not reside there permanently.
He added that he noticed that the water was cut off from his apartment whenever he went there, and he initially thought that the problem was general, before he discovered, according to him, that someone was intentionally damaging the water pipes connected to the apartment, which forced him to repair them more than once.
He pointed out that he caught the same person while tampering with the water connections, explaining that he spoke to him in an aggressive manner, which prompted him to seek the help of the residential complex’s security personnel.
But the artist was surprised, according to his narration, by being subjected to additional threats from some of those present, which included the threat to disfigure his face and bury him alive if he continued to object to what was happening.
Anani continued that he documented the details of the incident in a video clip that he posted on his personal Facebook account, during which he called on the police to intervene and protect him.
He confirmed that police forces came to the site and arrested the people he accused of threatening him, noting that a report on the incident had been filed at the October 3rd Police Department.
The Egyptian artist revealed that, on Friday, he went to the 6th of October Prosecution Office to follow up on investigations with the accused.
He explained that parties to the incident offered him reconciliation, but he rejected the offer, stressing his adherence to his legal rights, especially since the threats to which he was subjected, according to his description, were very serious.
The results of the investigations or the final legal position of the people accused by the artist have not yet become clear, while the details of the threats attributed to them remain based on his account until the results of the investigations are issued.
It is noteworthy that Abed Anani graduated from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in 2008, where he studied acting and directing, and headed to theatrical work, and won several awards for best actor at the Egyptian Theater Festival and the Acting Professions Syndicate Festival.
His artistic breakthrough came with the help of the late artist Nour El-Sherif, who presented him to the public as part of a group of new faces in the series “Don’t Be Afraid” in 2009. Nour El-Sherif also participated in the series “Arafat Al-Bahr” and the movie “Cairo Time.”
Anani participated in a number of artistic works, including the series “Al-Hashashishin,” “Jouder,” and “The House is My Home,” and the films “Divorce Me” and “The Green Door,” while his most recent work was the series “Justice Has Another Face.”
