To follow the Saudi Football Channel on WhatsApp from Ofoq News in Arabic, click here - Mohammed Al-Deayea, the former Saudi national team goalkeeper, sent a message of thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo after the stance he showed towards the Kingdom recently. Ronaldo wore a green scarf, with phrases from the Saudi national anthem, “Long live the king for the flag and the nation,” written on it, while celebrating with the fans Al-Nasr Club’s victory over the Uzbek club Neftchi, with a score of 1/3, last Monday.
This gesture from Cristiano came in light of Saudi Arabia being subjected to attacks by the Yemeni Houthi group on facilities and infrastructure in the Kingdom, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. Al-Deayea, who is considered one of the most prominent goalkeepers in the Kingdom throughout history, wrote through his account on the “X” platform on Tuesday: “Thank you to the international star Cristiano Ronaldo for his noble stance and standing with my country, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
He added: “Wearing the Saudi scarf is a message of appreciation and pride that we value and respect. Authentic stances remain in the memory and create respect that goes beyond sports.” The 54-year-old continued: “All appreciation and respect for you, Cristiano Ronaldo. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia deserves loyalty from everyone.”
