Sadness fell over the people of the village of Al-Atf in Beheira Governorate, northern Egypt, following the announcement of the death of Egyptian air hostess Azza Ramzi Muhammad Hassan Shaaban, aged 28, in the attack that targeted King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, amid a state of shock among her family members who were waiting for her to return to spend her vacation with them.
Details of the incident revealed that the Egyptian flight attendant was planning to end her work in the aviation field and return to settle in her hometown, as she had told her family members that her last flight would be a prelude to submitting her resignation, which doubled the impact of the shock on her family after receiving the news of her death.
Ahmed Labib, the cousin of the Egyptian flight attendant, said in media statements that Azza graduated from the Faculty of Law, before joining an aviation academy and getting a job opportunity in one of the airline companies.
He added that his cousin intended to submit her resignation and settle in her village in Beheira Governorate, noting that she told her family that this would be her last trip, before she returned to them to spend her regular vacation.
He explained that the family members followed the news circulating about the attack that targeted the airport, amid a state of anxiety and anticipation, until her older sister confirmed the news of the death, so the state of waiting turned into shock and sadness among the family members.
The hostess's cousin indicated that the family was careful not to inform her father of her death from the evening of the previous day until the morning of the next day, out of consideration for his health condition, and in an attempt to avoid him being exposed to a sudden shock.
He added that her father did not learn of the news until a few hours before the statements, after the family confirmed the death, while the family began preparing to receive the body and transport it to her hometown in Beheira Governorate, in preparation for burial in the village cemetery.
Following the accident, the Egyptian Embassy and Consulate General in Riyadh, in coordination with the victim’s family, are following up on the necessary procedures to transport the flight attendant’s body to Egypt.
Cairo News Channel also reported that the Egyptian diplomatic mission is following up on the health condition of the Egyptians injured as a result of the attack, in parallel with coordination with Azza’s family to complete the procedures for the return of her body to the homeland.
The Saudi Civil Aviation Authority announced that the attack that targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, on Saturday afternoon, resulted in the death of 12 people and the injury of 309 others, according to the numbers contained in the announcement transmitted regarding the incident.
The return of Azza, which the family was waiting for to celebrate her presence among them, turned into a tragedy, after her last journey ended in a way that no one expected, leaving behind a dream of returning to her home and settling down among her family.
