Egyptian authorities closed a famous restaurant in Alexandria on Sunday after around 19 people suffered from food poisoning after consuming meals from the restaurant located in the Sidi Bishr area.
This came after the Alexandria police operations room received a report indicating that several citizens had arrived at various hospitals suffering from severe gastrointestinal symptoms and acute gastroenteritis after eating food from the restaurant.
Following the report, the relevant authorities launched a security and enforcement campaign to inspect the health and food safety conditions and supplies within the restaurant.
The inspection and examination revealed serious violations, including the presence of insects and reptiles inside the food preparation storage, as well as a clear decline in general cleanliness and poor food storage.
As a result of those violations, the authorities issued an immediate decision to close the restaurant and its affiliated warehouse with a red seal, and samples of food were seized and sent to the central laboratories of the Ministry of Health for examination to determine the exact causes behind the poisoning cases.
In the same context, a report was filed regarding the incident, and the public prosecution was notified to begin investigations and take the necessary legal actions against the restaurant owner.
