- The Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, renewed his country’s proposal for a “concrete 7-day plan” to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Araqchi told reporters at the United Nations on Friday that this 7-day period will begin “as soon as the United States accepts this plan,” adding that the strait “will open on the sixth day,” and on the seventh day, Iran will begin talks with the United States on a “final agreement.”
He stated: “If the necessary conditions are met, the strait can be reopened and normal maritime traffic can be restored within 7 days, and the decision now rests with the United States,” and he also held both the United States and Israel “responsible for the security situation in the strait.” “You cannot bomb a country, threaten to annihilate it, impose a naval blockade and coercive measures, and then expect security and navigation to be restored automatically,” he said.
Araqchi announced this proposal for the first time on Thursday, noting that the conditions required of the United States “do not exceed” what was stated in the Islamabad memorandum of understanding. In response to Araqchi's statements, a White House official told Ofoq News that they are holding "positive and constructive talks through mediators."
The official said: “The United States has a very strong position that gives it control over the Strait of Hormuz, so we are not in a hurry. Last night, oil shipments amounting to about 22 million barrels crossed the Strait.”
