Jerusalem - Ofoq News - Iran has strengthened its defenses around sensitive sites, including nuclear sites such as Har Makush and Natanz, and is preparing public opinion for the possibility of renewed military conflict with the United States.
Satellite images, according to the Wall Street Journal, show fortifications, such as earthen walls, around these sites to make attacks more difficult.
The Iranian regime believes that Trump may launch a new attack after the midterm elections, and sees these preparations as a deterrent.
High-level Iranian officials have warned, both publicly and in private conversations with regional figures, that Iran will respond with widespread escalation in the Middle East if the United States launches new attacks.
Some hinted at the possibility of launching ground raids or strikes on targets such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi oil facilities, and data centers.
Mohsen Rezaei said on Sunday that Tehran may attack the United Arab Emirates, which has suffered few attacks since late spring, as well as data centers and internet cables across the region.
In a separate context, Iran warned Arab officials that Saudi oil facilities may be among its targets if the campaign resumes, according to some sources who spoke to the newspaper.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the US military is also preparing for a possible return to combat. A third carrier strike group and another Marine Corps landing unit are headed to the Middle East. The Pentagon is considering sending air defenses and additional munitions to bases in the region.
President Donald Trump last week ruled out a military strike before the midterm elections, but publicly hinted at the possibility of targeting the Pix Mountain nuclear site. US officials reported that the army is preparing a range of options to launch new strikes.
Direct confrontations between the United States and Iran have largely stopped since Trump canceled plans for all-out escalation in late July. According to previous reports by the newspaper, this decision is due to concerns about the stock of interceptor missiles needed to protect targets throughout the region.
However, conflict continues in other arenas. According to the report, the United States is escalating its economic pressure and escorting oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz with increasing success. For its part, Iran intensified its attacks on ships in the Arabian Gulf region.
According to the British Maritime Trade Organization, at least three commercial ships were damaged in and around the strait over the weekend. On Sunday, a fire broke out in the Emirati oil tanker "Petro Dolphin" following a drone attack near Oman, and two Indian sailors are still missing.
