The Jordanian Public Security Directorate announced that the Anti-Cybercrime Unit follows up on posts and comments that contain legal violations, especially content that incites hatred or includes insults to others, whether inside or outside the Kingdom.
The Directorate said, in a post on its official account on the “X” platform, that the unit follows up “any publications or comments that contain legal violations that incite hatred and abuse of others inside or outside Jordan.”
However, it did not clarify whether this follow-up was related to specific publications or incidents, nor did it announce the arrest of people or the referral of new cases to the judiciary against the background of these violations.
The announcement came in the wake of an incident targeting a church in the Jordanian Karak Governorate, which sparked official reactions and condemnations.
Yemeni Prime Minister Sha'i al-Zindani expressed his condemnation of the attack, offering his condolences to the Jordanian king, the government and the Jordanian people. Al-Zindani affirmed his rejection of targeting places of worship and terrorist acts, expressing Yemen's solidarity with Jordan in confronting security threats.
The Anti-Cybercrime Unit in Jordan is responsible for dealing with reports and cases related to violations committed through means of communication and digital platforms, in accordance with the legislation in force in the Kingdom.
This includes content that may involve incitement or abuse punishable by law, with identification of violations and responsibility for them subject to competent legal procedures.
The Public Security statement did not specify new penalties or exceptional measures, only emphasizing the continued monitoring of publications and comments that violate the law.
This warning came at a time when the importance of controlling electronic speech is increasing, especially with the tensions that may accompany security incidents, while determining legal responsibility remains within the jurisdiction of judicial authorities.
