Nigeria published on Tuesday the names of 25 people who died in a military plane crash the day before, confirming that no survivors were found, thus reducing the toll from the 32 deaths that had been announced on Monday.

The country witnessed one of the worst air disasters in its history, with the crash of an ATR-42 aircraft in Ondo State in the southwest of the country, during a "routine mission" to transport passengers from Benin City in southern Nigeria to Lagos, the economic capital of the country.

President Bola Tinubu stated that 32 people on board the plane lost their lives, including 25 passengers and seven crew members.

However, the Air Force clarified on Tuesday that the number of people on board the aircraft was lower.

A spokesperson stated in a statement that the flight was carrying 25 people, including five crew members and 20 passengers.

He added, "No survivors have been found."

Among the passengers were civilians from military families. The list of victims included six names without military ranks.

Tinubu and the army had ordered an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.

The spokesperson for the General Staff, Samaila Uba, confirmed on Tuesday that "the plane was on a routine mission between Benin City and Lagos, carrying military personnel and some of their family members."
