The Jordanian Crown Prince, Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, said that all state resources are “being harnessed to arrest the terrorists” who are behind the attack that targeted the St. Georgios Greek Orthodox Church in Karak Governorate. The Crown Prince offered his condolences, stressing that “the attack on citizens in places of worship is a cowardly and treacherous act,” according to the Royal Hashemite Court.
The Crown Prince referred to "the directives of His Majesty the King to strike terrorists with an iron fist and to respond firmly to anyone who dares to tamper with the unity of Jordanians, stressing that the terrorist attack is an attack on Jordan and all Jordanians, and that Karak will remain steadfast and proud of the determination of its people." He stressed that "he and His Majesty the King are keen to hold the aggressors accountable, and that all state resources are being devoted to controlling terrorists."
Queen Rania Al Abdullah, along with Princess Rajwa Rajwa Al Hussein and Princess Salma bint Abdullah II, also offered condolences on Saturday, according to Petra. The official Al-Mamlaka channel published footage of the funeral.
Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan, representing King Abdullah II, also participated in a ceremony held on Sunday to mourn the victims of the terrorist attack. Thousands of mourners and official and popular figures participated in the funeral ceremony that was held in the vicinity of the church, and the bodies were carried on the shoulders of Public Security personnel and wrapped in Jordanian flags before they were buried.
Hassan said that state agencies are working to arrest the church attackers in Karak Governorate "so that they receive the punishment they deserve." The official "Al-Mamlaka" channel quoted Hassan as saying that "extremism, extremism, and takfiri thought have spread over the past four decades," stressing "the necessity of continuing and intensifying efforts to uproot these ideas from their roots," and that "they have absolutely no place in this country and in this society."
King Abdullah II had confirmed that Jordan would respond “firmly” to those responsible for the “terrorist act,” stressing that “Jordanian blood is precious and we will strike with an iron fist anyone who insults this country,” according to the Jordanian News Agency (Petra). The Jordanian authorities announced on Saturday that the number of victims of the attack had reached at least nine, after two people died of their injuries.
