- The Saudi Ministry of Interior announced, on Thursday, the execution of a death sentence (discretionary punishment) against 5 people of Ethiopian nationality, in the Asir region, according to a statement by the ministry published by the Saudi Press Agency, SPA. The Saudi Ministry of Interior said: “Sakaw Asay Barato Tesfaye, Kanfa Takhlai Haddush Foado, Mikayla Marhan Qarzqir Qabra, Dasta Qabra Kiros Ambaya, and Mahari Qabra Hawareh Haile Helassa, all of Ethiopian nationality, participated in smuggling narcotic hashish into the Kingdom.”

The Saudi Ministry of Interior added: “Thanks to God, the security authorities were able to arrest the aforementioned perpetrators, and their investigation resulted in them being accused of committing the crime, and by referring them to the competent court, and proving their eligibility and assigning them, a ruling was issued against them confirming what was attributed to them and killing them (as a discretionary punishment), and the ruling became final after it was appealed and then upheld by the Supreme Court, and a royal order was issued to enforce what was decided according to Sharia law,” according to what SPA reported. The Saudi Ministry of Interior confirmed that “a death sentence was carried out (as a discretionary measure) against the perpetrators: Saqaw Asay Barato Tesfaye, Kanfa Takhlai Hadush Foado, Mikaila Marhan Qarzqir Qabra, Dasta Qabra Qarrus Ambaya, and Mahari Qabra Haware Haile Helasa, Ethiopian nationals, Thursday, 5/25/1448 AH, corresponding to 5/5/2017. 11/2026 AD in the Asir region.
