The Carmel Municipality participates in a workshop to enhance the integration of sustainable development goals into strategic planning

Ramallah - Ofoq News - The Palestinian Union of Local Authorities held the second training workshop in a series of workshops on “Integrating Sustainable Development Goals into the Strategic Development Planning of Local Authorities,” with the participation of 41 representatives from 24 local authorities in the Hebron and Bethlehem governorates, with the aim of enhancing the capabilities of local authorities to integrate sustainable development goals into their development plans, programs, and projects, and linking local priorities and needs to global development goals and objectives.

At the direction of the Mayor of Carmel, Qasim Abu Aram, and in confirmation of the Carmel Municipality’s keenness to develop its institutional capabilities and enhance the efficiency of development planning, the municipality’s strategic planning employee, Wajdi Al-Dababash, participated in the aforementioned training workshop.

The training covered mechanisms for integrating sustainable development goals into the stages of strategic development planning, and highlighted the most prominent updates to the 2024 Strategic Development Planning Guide, especially in the areas of sustainability, climate change, resilience and inclusion. He also reviewed the Federation’s efforts to localize the goals, and the role of the Sustainable Development Goals website and the “Municipality Meter” tool in monitoring progress and measuring the extent of implementation of strategic plans, in addition to discussing the experiences of local authorities in linking their development priorities to the relevant goals and indicators.

This training coincides with the Union’s activities within the Urban October activities, within the activities of the project “Mobilizing the Competencies of Palestinian Local Authorities on Knowledge Exchange and Adaptation to Sustainable Development Goals,” implemented within the Local Government Sector Reform Program (LGRP-III) with funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and with support from the (GIZ).
