Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that Russia agrees with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the absence of any prospects for a diplomatic settlement in Ukraine at the present time.
“Yes, we agree with him,” Peskov told reporters on Thursday, according to TASS.
For its part, American sources reported Thursday that President Donald Trump's envoys will discuss with Ukrainian negotiators in Miami on Friday "new ideas" to end the war between Moscow and Kiev, confirming the invitation of European parties to participate in the discussions.
A source familiar with the talks told AFP that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner "will discuss new ideas and proposals that American negotiators began developing with the Russians and Ukrainians during their recent visit" to Moscow and Kiev in September.
The source also added that "American negotiators invited national security advisors from Britain, France, and Germany, in addition to officials from NATO and the European Union" to participate in the discussions.
This comes as the US Secretary of State confirmed, in an interview with the Greek newspaper Kathimerini earlier Thursday, that there are two ways out of the strategic impasse related to Ukraine: either a diplomatic settlement is reached, or a unilateral or mutual escalation occurs that goes beyond the scope of the original conflict. He added that it seems clear at the present time that there are no prospects for reaching a diplomatic settlement.
