The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, commented on the midterm elections in the United States, describing the electoral defeat suffered by the Republican Party - to which President Donald Trump belongs - as an “anti-war” message by voters. Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf wrote in a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter): “Whether the motive is conscience or the cost of living, the Americans have said ‘No to war,’ and we support this message.”
Qalibaf concluded his letter by issuing a warning to the American administration, saying: “If the American government betrays the will of its people in order to serve international financiers or parties that practice blackmail, it will realize that our saying ‘no’ will be followed by a nightmare.” High energy prices and inflation - stemming from the war waged by the United States and Israel against Iran - have been repeatedly cited as major reasons for voters' frustration with the Trump administration in the run-up to Tuesday's midterm elections.
Senior Republican Party officials have already begun to blame their party's losses on the fallout from this conflict, which erupted in late February. For his part, Trump stated that he is in no hurry to end the war unless Iran meets his demands, indicating that the United States “may have to target” the “Ax Mountain” area, where Israel believes Tehran stores part of its stock of enriched uranium and advanced centrifuges designated for enrichment.
