The city of Abu Nomros in Giza Governorate in central Egypt witnessed a new incident of sudden ground landing, which sparked a state of panic among the people.

The authorities had received a report of a sudden and large landslide on Ali Salama Street in the village of Al-Manawat, affiliated with the center and city of Abu Al-Numros, and immediately declared a state of rapid alert to confront the situation, determine its causes, and restore traffic to the street.

According to the first examinations, it was found that the collapse occurred as a result of a defect and collapse in one of the sewage network parts in the area, which required urgent intervention from the executive leadership of the Abu Nomros Center in cooperation with the officials of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Company to begin technical work and fix the defect.

The security forces imposed a tight cordon around the landing site to avoid falling cars or pedestrians, while the authorities announced that repair operations would continue without stopping, until the complete completion of paving the road and returning it to its natural state to secure the movement of cars and citizens.

This incident brings to mind a series of landslide incidents that Egypt witnessed recently in the governorates of Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, the Red Sea, and some Delta governorates.

Most of these accidents are due to the impact of leaks in water networks or groundwater on the soil, as well as outdated sewage networks, or excessive loads of heavy transport vehicles on internal roads that are not designated for them.

This phenomenon prompted the Ministry of Local Development and the executive authorities in the governorates to intensify periodic inspections of underground utility lines and update digital maps of water and drainage networks to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
