The secrets of healing in the guidance of the prophets

Writer: Dr. Majed Saqr

The spittle of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, to heal the sick is a revelation from heaven and a miracle specific to the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace only. It is not permissible to generalize what is specific about the Messenger Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, such as his spittle and massage as a treatment for some of the Companions, as he did with Ali, may God be pleased with him, when some of the fortresses of Khaybar were difficult to conquer. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said that night: “Tomorrow I will give the banner to a man at whose hands God will grant victory, who loves God.” And His Messenger, and God and His Messenger love him.” The Companions began wishing to give it to them. When morning came, the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, asked: “Where is Ali bin Abi Talib?” They said: He has a problem with his eyes (that is, he suffers from severe ophthalmia and can barely see). So our master Ali was brought to Yaqad due to severe pain, and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, spit in his eyes and prayed for him. At that moment, Ali recovered as if he had never been in pain. Our Master Ali narrates about the blessing of this act: “I have not turned white or cracked since the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, wiped my face and spit in my eyes.” This is one of the miracles of the prophets, just as Jesus, peace be upon him, used to pray to God and wipe, God willing, on the sick, thus healing the blind man (who is born blind and cannot see) and the leper (who is afflicted with the skin disease of leprosy).

As for the Companions, it has not been proven in Islamic law that the Companions, may God be pleased with them, used to spit in water with the intention of increasing its blessing in itself, nor has it been proven that any of the followers used to seek blessing from the saliva or spit of the Companions.

The legal and historical details of this issue are summarized as follows:

1. Seeking blessings through spit and saliva is reserved for the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, alone. It was never reported that the Companions were blessed by the sparkle or spit of the great Companions such as Abu Bakr, Omar, Othman, or Ali (may God be pleased with them), and they are the best of the nation after the prophets. Even if it was in other dregsThe Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is a personal blessing for what he did with the Rightly Guided Caliphs. Therefore, the majority of scholars believe that blessing itself and separate parts (such as saliva, sweat, and hair) is specific to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and no one else can be compared to him.

2. The blessing of the Qur’an is not transmitted through spit or spit. The blessing of the Holy Qur’an is a divine moral blessing established in the words of God Himself, and not an intrinsic material blessing that is transmitted through the saliva or body of the person who is praying.

3. The Holy Qur’an is a cure for the diseases of the heart, worries, and sadness in the breasts, and the Qur’anic verses mentioned in the healing of the breasts

As stated in Surah Yunus (verse 57): {O people, there has come to you an admonition from your Lord and a healing for what is in the breasts and a guidance and a mercy for the believers} and the meaning of “healing for what is in the breasts” in the interpretation means diseases. Hearts: The Qur’an heals you from doubt, hypocrisy, ignorance, misguidance, bad thoughts, envy, malice, greed, greed...etc. It does not mean a cure for physical diseases about which the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “Indeed, God Almighty sent down the disease and the cure, and made a cure for every disease, so seek treatment and do not treat with what is forbidden” (Narrated by Abu Dawud and authenticated by Al-Suyuti). In other narrations: “Take care, servants of God, for God has not created a disease without creating a cure for it, other than one disease: old age (death/old age).” Because many Muslims believe that healing from the Holy Qur’an is permissible in diseases such as the Corona virus, cancer, clots, or fractures, and this is a misunderstanding. However, if the patient or the patient’s family wants to read verses from the Book of God to reassure the patient and raise his morale, it is a type of treatment that helps in treatment, because the word of God has magic and influence on humans, but it is necessary to resort to medicine and treatment.

summaryThe spittle of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, to heal the sick and calm the soul of a companion is a revelation from heaven and a miracle for the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace only, and it is not permissible for us to make of our religion nonsense for which God has sent down no authority.
