The General Authority of Civil Aviation in Saudi Arabia announced, on Friday, that two attacks had occurred on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Thursday, the first targeting its facilities and the second a Saudi Airlines plane, resulting in the death of 3 citizens and a number of injuries. The statement stated that on Thursday, “King Khalid International Airport was subjected to two attacks. The first attack targeted the airport facilities, while the second attack targeted a Saudi Airlines plane.”

The emergency teams and competent authorities began dealing with the two attacks immediately after they occurred in accordance with the approved procedures and plans.” The authority added in the statement: “The two attacks resulted in the martyrdom of (3) Saudi citizens - may God have mercy on them - and the injury of a number of citizens and residents of different nationalities: their injuries ranged from minor to severe, and they were immediately transferred to the hospital to receive the necessary medical care. The two attacks resulted in some material damage.”

The authority affirmed "the continuation of work - in continuous integration and coordination with the relevant security authorities - to assess the damage and take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of travelers and workers, and to maintain the security and safety of the civil aviation system in the Kingdom." The authority indicated that "operational operations have been resumed at the airport and air traffic has returned to normal."
